“Color remembers what language forgets.”
Every skein is dyed using a method that uses up nearly all the pigment—called exhaust dyeing. I use acid dyes because they’re vibrant, reliable, and safe when used with care.
The process is slow and deliberate. I balance pH, heat, and color to suit each type of yarn. Then I steam-set the color to make sure it lasts—without damaging the fibers.
When the dyeing is done, I don’t pour anything down the drain. Leftover water goes to a professional waste facility, where it’s safely treated, purified, and reused. It’s an extra step, but one I believe in.
Natural dyes may sound gentler, but they often require more land, water, and sometimes harsh additives. Not all “natural” is truly sustainable.
To me, dyeing is more than color—it’s care. It’s memory, story, and respect for everything that made this yarn possible.
